Well, I had my followup doctor's visit for my achilles injury, and really nothing came of it except for a referral to a sports injury guy. My main doctor did check out the mystery notch right above the original injury spot, and he believed it really was in the tendon, not the soft tissue around it. I have never had pain in that particular spot, so I have no idea what that means. I'm supposed to see the specialist sometime next week, but with an HMO that probably means a few more weeks after that.
I would be tempted to go ahead and try some running, but my achilles seems to actually be getting worse again. It is in a slightly different spot than before - more on the sides than the back - but it is a similar but milder pain. It actually feels no better now than it did just a couple days after I stopped running 10 weeks ago. There is still more tightness on my right side than my left, and both calves continue to be sore. This calf issue is probably the same deal that has bugged me since college, but it might contribute to the achilles issues as well. In college the calf problem was fixed with some extremely painful physical therapy. This time I am going to try some SMFR to fix it, but I'll also run this by the sport injury doctor whenever I manage to get in.
